The short answer

What is the best day trip from Dubrovnik by boat?

For a whole day, go island hopping on the Elafiti Islands: Koločep, Lopud and Šipan, with swim stops, Šunj beach and lunch ashore. With less time, a half day covers Koločep and Lopud, and two hours is enough for the Blue Cave, the Old Town walls and Lokrum, or a sunset cruise.

1. A full day on the Elafiti Islands

The Elafiti Islands are the classic day trip from Dubrovnik. Koločep has sea caves and quiet bays, Lopud has Šunj, the most popular sandy beach in the archipelago, and Šipan is the largest of the islands. On a full day we visit all three, with time to swim, snorkel and have lunch ashore.

2. The Blue Cave on Koločep

You can only reach the Blue Cave by boat, and once you swim inside you see why: the light turns the water a glowing blue. It is the favourite of families and groups of friends, and it fits into two hours.

3. Lokrum and the Old Town walls

The shortest and easiest trip of all. Cruise along the city walls and the fortresses, swim near Lokrum, and see Dubrovnik the way sailors did for centuries.

4. A sunset on the Adriatic

End a day trip, or your holiday, with the Sunset Getaway: a welcome glass of wine, the sky turning gold over the islands, and the Old Town lights from the water.

What about Montenegro, Kotor and Cavtat?

Montenegro and the Bay of Kotor are popular day trips from Dubrovnik by road, usually with a coach or a driver and a border crossing. Our trips stay on the Croatian coast around Dubrovnik. If you have one free day, the Elafiti Islands give you islands, beaches and swimming without long transfers.
